A unique opportunity has opened for a dynamic and community-driven imam to serve at the Mitchells Plain Town Centre Mosque, with the mosque administration inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position.
The mosque is seeking an imam of impeccable character who can assist with both imamate and administrative responsibilities, while building meaningful relationships within the Mitchells Plain Town Centre community. The successful candidate is expected to be sensitive to the diverse needs of the community, remain politically neutral, and play an active role in inspiring and guiding young people.
The trustees of the mosque told Muslim Views that the imam’s engagement with youth should be “uplifting, spiritual, social, educational” and should encourage positive growth within the community. Duties will also include involvement in the upkeep and administration of the mosque precincts, as well as availability for the agreed daily salaahs.
Applicants are required to be fluent in English, Afrikaans and Arabic, and must have completed a nationally or internationally recognised Islamic course or degree. A minimum of five years’ experience in imamate duties, whether full-time or part-time, is also required. Candidates must provide written and contactable references.
The salary package is negotiable. Interested applicants may contact Hassan on 021 683 1786 or 084 764 0835, or email hsattar@lagroup.co.za for further information.
