Awqaf SA’s 100 Ball Youth Cricket Tournament returns to Cape Town, linking sport, education, and social impact through youth development and community upliftment.
Awqaf South Africa (Awqaf SA), in association with Primrose Cricket Club and endorsed by the Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA), are hosting the 10th edition of the Awqaf SA 100 Ball Youth Cricket Tournament from December 17 to 21, 2025, marking a decade of youth development, sporting excellence, and social impact through cricket.
The five-day tournament is taking take place at Primrose Cricket Club in Kenilworth as well as six community fields across Cape Town. This year’s edition features 50 teams across age groups from Under-10 to Under-19, bringing together young cricketers from diverse backgrounds in one of South Africa’s most inclusive and fast-paced youth cricket events.
Since its inception in 2016, the tournament has grown from modest beginnings into one of Awqaf SA’s flagship social cohesion initiatives, using sport as a bridge across social divides and as a platform for discipline, teamwork, leadership, and values-based development.
This milestone edition is anchored by the 2025 theme, ‘Beyond cricket – the next big leap’, reflecting a maturing vision that positions cricket as more than a game. The tournament deliberately links sporting participation with broader community impact, aiming to shape not only skilled players but socially conscious and opportunity-driven young people.
In line with this vision, the 2025 tournament actively supports the launch of Awqaf SA’s National Tuition Initiative, expanding the organisation’s long-standing commitment to education. Awqaf SA currently supports approximately 85 000 Grade 10 to 12 learners annually through its Mathematics Intervention Programme.
The new initiative will extend academic support across multiple subjects through in-person tuition and a national online learning platform, addressing the widening gap between learners who can afford private tuition and those who cannot.
Tournament coordinator Dahlaan Collier, speaking on behalf of the young local organising committee, emphasised the deeper purpose behind this year’s event.
‘This tournament is about more than producing good cricketers; it’s about producing grounded, responsible young people,’ he said. ‘“Beyond cricket – the next big leap” reflects our belief that every run scored and every match played can contribute to something bigger. Through this tournament, we are mobilising sport to support a National Tuition Initiative that gives young people access to quality education, dignity, and opportunity.’
The tournament is led by a dynamic, youth-driven organising team, many of whom were players in the inaugural tournament a decade ago and now return as leaders, organisers, and custodians of a growing legacy. Their journey reflects Awqaf SA’s ethos of continuity, mentorship, and service, demonstrating how sustained investment in youth can yield long-term leadership and community impact.
Hosted under the patronage of respected cricketing figures including Beresford Williams, Nabeal Dien, and Proteas legend JP Duminy, the tournament continues to honour cricket’s heritage while advancing its role as a force for social justice and cohesion.
The public is invited to attend the matches and support the teams. The tournament promises a vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere with food trucks, community engagement, and competitive fixtures across all age groups.
