THE Muslim Thinker NPC, a newly established platform for intellectual renewal and values-based leadership, will host its inaugural public lecture on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Islamia College Auditorium, Cape Town.
The keynote address will be delivered by Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool, former South African Ambassador to the United States, on the theme, ‘Leadership, Democracy, and Human Dignity: Responsibility in a Fractured World’.
He will be joined in dialogue by Dr Naledi Pandor, former Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, with distinguished journalist and editor, Khadija Patel, moderating the discussion.
Vision and purpose
The Muslim Thinker NPC was founded to build intellectual capital within the Muslim community, while positioning Muslim voices within broader national and global debates. Its mission is to create a space where scholarship, leadership, and public engagement intersect to address the pressing challenges of our time.
This inaugural lecture marks the beginning of a Public Intellectual Series that will bring together leading thinkers, policymakers, academics, NGOs and civil society in an atmosphere of reflection and dialogue. The purpose is not only to respond to current crises but also to nurture future-oriented conversations that inspire integrity, justice, and solidarity.
Why now?
The theme is especially timely and urgent. South Africa and the world are experiencing a profound crisis of leadership. Trust in democratic institutions is weakening, global conflicts threaten peace, and inequality undermines human dignity.
At this historic moment, The Muslim Thinker seeks to contribute to the renewal of leadership by convening critical voices that can chart pathways of responsibility and justice. By engaging an intergenerational audience, students, academics, professionals, and civil society leaders, the event will connect local realities with global challenges, offering hope and inspiration.
Invitation to the community
The Muslim Thinker warmly invites the public to attend this inaugural lecture. It promises to be a transformative evening of ideas, dialogue, and reflection; one that situates South African Muslim intellectual thought within the global struggle for justice, democracy, and human dignity.
