The Cape Town Sport Council held their awards at the President’s suite at Newlands on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

THE awards recognise the achievements of former athletes, administrators and support staff as legends, lifetime achievers and pay homage to the roll of honour recipients.
Those recognised in the roll of honour were Akhona Mlambo (hockey), Barend van der Merwe (softball), Janeese Silen (equestrian), Patrick Phillips (Softball), Peter Groepies (SAFA) and Dr Tom Sutcliffe (fly fishing).
The lifetime achievers were Brent Shield (lifesaving), Caroline Inglis (softball), Deon Kerchhof (softball), Donald Bland (fancy pigeons), Leon Courie (klawerjas), Pam Newby (dragon boating), Zaida Beukes (tennis), Anthony Pinn (SAFA), Cynthia Rayner (golf), Hilton Langenhoven (physically disabled and visually impaired), Petrus Burger (deaf sport), Sergio Pinto (figure skating).
The recipients in the legends category were Anthony Fawcett (tennis), Charles Lindsay (SAFA), Helga Pinto (figure skating), Hilary Beeton ( physically disabled and visually impaired), Lindsay Buckley (gymnastics), Lucille Rossi (bodybuilding), Majiet Saait (physically disabled and visually impaired), Peter Parker (klawerjas), Randall Daniels (fencing), Robbie Doidge (physically disabled and visually impaired), Sandra Son (physically disabled and visually impaired) Vincent Ntunja (basketball), Yassien Khan (fancy pigeons), Zelda Hansen (physically disabled and visually impaired).

‘The organisation is 24 years old. The Cape Town awards has been running for 15 years while the Cape Town Sport Council awards which is this one was re-introduced three years ago and has three categories, the roll of honour, the legends and the life time achievers,’ said Junaid Baig, the Chairperson of the sport council.
