Darul Uloom Pretoria leads Juloos for over Two Decades

In the spirit of the Month of Rabibul Awwal, Muslims worldwide are joining together to celebrate the birth of the esteemed Prophet Muhammad (SAW). This momentous occasion holds great significance and is observed with reverence and enthusiasm by followers of Islam.

A common form of celebration during this month is the juloos street march, where Muslims express their love and honor for Prophet Muhammad (SAW). This tradition involves a group of people marching through the streets, singing praises in tribute to the Prophet.

One institution that has played a vital role in organizing the juloos is the Darul Uloom Pretoria, a renowned Islamic educational institution in South Africa. They initiated the juloos in Laudium in the year 2000, and this year will mark the 24th Annual Juloos, which will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023, starting from the PMT Jummuah Masjid.

Speaking on behalf of the Darul Uloom Pretoria, a correspondent mentioned the historical significance of hosting the juloos in Laudium. They stated that the juloos was initiated by the Darul Uloom and led by a descendant of Prophet Muhammad on June 16, 2000. Since then, it has been held annually, allowing males to walk during the street march while females can join in the motorcade that follows.

Ahlus Sunnah Media Networks, a local-based Media Monitoring organization, commended Darul Uloom Pretoria for their leadership in establishing the juloos in Laudium. They highlighted the positive impact of the juloos in inspiring other organizations in the Laudium area to conduct their own juloos, a testament to Darul Uloom Pretoria’s influence.

In addition to Laudium, other regions in South Africa also hold annual juloos street marches. Lenasia, in the Johannesburg region, hosts a popular juloos organized by the Sabeerie Chishty Society. This juloos was initiated over three decades ago by the Sayed Brothers of the Saaberie Chishty Society, demonstrating the enduring legacy of this tradition.

The Cape Town Ulama Board, an authority body in South Africa, extended their congratulations to Hazrat Mufti Mohamed Akbar Hazarvi and Hazrat Moulana Hafez Ismail Hazarvi of the Darul Uloom Pretoria for successfully organizing the juloos for the past 24 years. They emphasized the significant role of such events in commemorating the moulood of Prophet Muhammad and fostering unity among the community. The board expressed admiration for the devotion and dedication displayed by the organizers and participants.

As Muslims continue to celebrate the Month of Rabibul Awwal, the juloos street march will undoubtedly be a highlight nationally in South Africa.
