The fire, which originated in Tokai Forest on Friday, April 25, spread to parts of the Constantiaberg and Silvermine East regions, prompting road closures and causing significant smoke exposure throughout the Cape Peninsula.

Emergency responders from Disaster Risk Management agencies were activated to support the Fire Services in their efforts to manage the fire and provide relief to affected communities.
In a heartening display of solidarity, various organisations, NGOs and community members stepped up to contribute essential supplies to the firefighting heroes on the front lines.
The Cape Town Ulama Board and Cape Town Islamic Educational Centre (CTIEC) Ziyaee Welfare, along with their dedicated volunteers, made a generous donation of hundreds of bottles of water and fruit to the Lakeside Fire Department drop-off point on Monday, April 28. Members of the Grassy Park Community Policing Forum took further direct action by distributing much-needed water to firefighters in the mountains as they battled the flames.
Head of CTIEC Ziyaee Welfare, Moulana Sayed Imraan Ziyaee, shared words of encouragement with the various organisations’ volunteers at the Lakeside drop-off point: ‘We believe in following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who emphasised the importance of helping others in times of need. Our assistance to the firefighters battling the Cape Town fire is in line with his teachings of compassion and solidarity. We are proud to support these brave individuals and hope that our small contribution can make a difference in their efforts to contain the fire.’
The Cape Town Ulama Board also issued a press statement emphasising the collective responsibility to assist the firefighters with basic donations during the crisis. They highlighted the importance of upholding the spirit of compassion and humanity as a Ummah.

At the Lakeside Fire Station, volunteers from all walks of life came together to lend their support by sorting, packing and preparing sandwiches for the tireless firefighters working to contain the blaze. The collaborative efforts of these individuals and organisations reflect the spirit of Ubuntu, emphasising the community’s shared responsibility and interconnectedness during times of crisis.
