SABEELA HENDRICKS and SAAQUIB MODACK share their Korean dining experience after a visit to Plucky’s Fried Chicken.
The dimly lit space invites diners to relax and savour their meal, while the upbeat K-pop tunes transport them to the bustling streets of Korea. The décor, with its mix of industrial accents and whimsical murals, add a playful and contemporary touch to the immersive dining experience. The air is alive with the tantalising aroma of sizzling meats wafting from PFC’s open-style kitchen.
Our boa buns arrived first – a delightful contrast of textures, with the soft pillowy pocket giving way to a burst of savory fillings. The fried chicken bites inside the steamed buns were drenched in a sweet Korean-style sauce, and the meal was well complemented by a side of crispy onion rings.
Second on our table was the ‘Butcher’s Chicken Burger.’ This towering creation was double stacked with a golden-fried patty and a chicken schnitzel. Garnished with layers of lettuce and a secret Korean sauce, the burger meal paired well with a side portion of mixed fries.
However, the chicken noodle meal was certainly the star of the show! The Udon noodles nestled perfectly at the bottom of the matte-black bowl, soaking up the sweet flavour of soy sauce. Topped off with crispy chicken pops, fresh spring onions, sesame seed and coconut flakes, the meal perfectly combined all textures and flavours into one dish. To cleanse our palates, we opted for a sweet ending: Milky bar and salted caramel milkshakes.
Our experience was elevated by PFC’s attention to presentation as each meal was uniquely plated. Our burger was wrapped in a printed wax sheet and served in a retro basket. The green-coloured boa buns were plated on a rectangular ceramic platter, and the noodle dish was served in a wide-rimmed bowl.
From the creative plating to the personalised branding on the wrapping sheets and serviettes, PFC’s aesthetic is curated in a manner that showcases their authenticity and attention to detail. The service was as exceptional as the food. The staff members were warm and welcoming, eager to guide us through the menu and offer recommendations based on their preferences. Our server was particularly attentive and knowledgeable, expressing a genuine desire to make our dining experience memorable. We were also pleasantly surprised by PFC’s affordability. The quality of the food, the generous portions and attention to detail in both aesthetic and service ensured that every penny spent was worth the investment.
PFC offers a delightful fusion of flavours and experiences. From the vibrant ambiance to the impeccable service and most importantly, the unforgettable dishes, PFC is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a taste of Korea’s rich culinary heritage with a contemporary twist. With the restaurant’s welcoming atmosphere and extensive menu, PFC is certainly a spot we see ourselves returning to!
