DERIVED from the Portuguese word for ‘Jungle,’ Selva Café and Co (SCC) is a quaint space that mimics the serenity of a faraway tropic. Nestled amidst the quite scenes of Harfield Village, the café beckons with promises of an experience that intertwines the flavours of nature with the comforts of home.
SABEELA HENDRICKS and SAAQUIB MODACK visited Selva Cafe and Co in the heart of Harfield Village and share their breakfast experience.
Surrounded by lush foliage and scattered sunlight, SCC exudes a tranquil ambiance that transports patrons to a tropical paradise. The gentle hum of intimate conversations mingle with the soft thrums of nature’s sounds, creating a relaxed atmosphere appropriate for savouring each culinary creation. Whether seated indoors amidst the urban jungle decor or al fresco on the terracotta wood terrace, every corner of SCC offers a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
From burgers to benedicts and sandwiches to salads, SCC has a variety of food and drink options to offer. On the very first morning after the month of Ramadaan, our taste buds tingled with anticipation as we prepared to savour the flavours of the full ‘Selva Breakfast.’
The perfectly cooked eggs, crispy macon, savoury sausages and sautéed mushrooms was complemented by a side of freshly baked and buttered ciabatta. With vibrant greens, sunny yellows, and rich browns, the Selva Breakfast emulates the brightly-coloured world of nature on a single plate. The Eggs Florentine consisted of lightly toasted sourdough crowned with delicate poached eggs and a golden halo of hollandaise sauce. Accompanied by a Red cappuccino, with its earthy notes and creamy foam, and a soothing Ceylon Tea, our breakfast experience at SCC presented a balanced blend of textures and tastes that made for a hearty meal away from home.

Whether you visit the café on a bustling weekday morning or a lazy Sunday afternoon, you can expect the same standards of quality and taste across every meal. From the first sip of coffee to the last bite of bread, our experience has remained consistently enjoyable, earning SCC a loyal following. With SCC’s generous portions and diverse food options, the café offers excellent value for money, making it a space you can enjoy alone, or with a group of people. The staff also embody the spirit of hospitality and familiarity, catering to all your culinary needs with a warm smile. One of the standout features is certainly their curated nursery. The individually sourced house plants are marked for sale, allowing customers to return home with more than just a full stomach. As a seasoned foodie or someone simply seeking the serenity of nature’s sanctuary, SCC invites one to relax and indulge in everything the café has to offer. From the vibrant outdoor-feel to the flavourful breakfast, our time at SCC was an experience that celebrated the beauty and bounty of nature in every bite. While there may be room for minor improvement in terms of creative food presentation, our overall rating of 7/10 reflects our appreciation for the unique charm and appeal of SCC as a whole.
