The Cape Town Islamic Educational Centre (CTIEC) has officially adopted the Palestine Curriculum into its syllabus, marking a major milestone in structured Palestinian education across Islamic institutions in the Western Cape.

The Cape Town Islamic Educational Centre (CTIEC) has finalised the adoption of the groundbreaking Palestine Curriculum into its official syllabus, ensuring a standardised and academically rigorous approach to Palestinian studies across its Cape Town Ulama Board network of madaris and ulooms.
The curriculum, which has been nearly a decade in the making, was meticulously developed and overseen by Advocate Mohamed Vahed, a senior academic, researcher, and founder of the Young Leaders Academy. Drawing on his decades of university-level experience, Adv Vahed designed the syllabus to move beyond reactive activism towards a structured study of history, spiritual significance, and systemic injustice.
The CTIEC’s implementation follows a dedicated visit during which Moulana Ebrahim Moosa, a lead researcher at the Palestine Information Network (PIN) and a key curator of the syllabus, spoke to learners about the practical and spiritual importance of the cause.
By combining Adv Vahed’s academic oversight with Moulana Moosa’s specialised research, the CTIEC is utilising a world-class educational tool that is both intellectually robust and spiritually grounded.
‘To implement a curriculum developed by a scholar of Advocate Vahed’s standing is a profound milestone for our institutions,’ a CTIEC spokesperson stated. ‘Our seven ready institutes are not just teaching a subject; they are adopting a scholarly framework that prepares our students for global leadership and informed advocacy.’
Accompanying Moulana Moosa to the CTIEC was the President of the United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA), Moulana Abdul Khaliq Allie, who welcomed the idea and made dua for steadfastness in supporting Palestine.
Today’s milestone: The Western Cape workshop
Today, Saturday, February 14, 2026, the focus turned to the Western Cape Teacher Workshop in Cape Town. Under the guidance of Adv Vahed and Moulana Moosa, CTIEC educators, alongside hundreds of educators from other schools, madaris and educational centres, underwent introductory training to the curriculum’s modules.

The rollout is a collaborative effort launched by the Islamic Curriculum Initiative (ICI) and the Global Association of Muslim Schools, with broad support including:
National endorsement: United Ulama Council of South Africa (UUCSA).
Provincial support: Muslim Judicial Council (SA), Cape Town Ulama Board (CTUB), and the Association of Muslim Schools (AMS) Western Cape.
Following the facilitators’ visit, the CTIEC confirmed that five of its primary institutes have been earmarked to begin classroom delivery in the coming months.
The Cape Town Ulama Board (CTUB) has pledged that all affiliated branches will eventually utilise this syllabus as part of their official syllabus. This ensures that for every CTIEC student, the history of Al-Aqsa and the pursuit of justice are no longer just external news items, but fundamental pillars of their religious and academic identity.
