Photojournalist Mustafa Ayyad killed in Gaza. FEROZ SHAIK reports:
TRAGEDY struck in the streets of Gaza City as Palestinian photojournalist Mustafa Ayyad fell victim to Israeli airstrikes while on assignment. Ayyad, who was covering the scenes unfolding in the Zeitoun neighbourhood, south of Gaza City, was critically injured during the attack.
Despite efforts to save him, Ayyad succumbed to his injuries on Monday, May 6, 2024. His passing marks yet another grim milestone in the ongoing conflict, bringing the toll of Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza to a staggering 142 since October 7, 2023.
Reports indicate that Ayyad was targeted by an Israeli reconnaissance drone, sustaining severe injuries to vital organs including his brain, heart, and liver. Despite being swiftly transported to Baptist Hospital, his condition remained critical until his unfortunate demise.
The loss of Ayyad underscores the dangers faced by journalists operating in conflict zones, where they often risk their lives to document unfolding events. As the world mourns his passing, calls for justice and an end to Israel’s war on Gaza.
