ON Monday May 5 the Cape Town Ulama Board, in association with the Cape Town Islamic Educational Centre (CTIEC), hosted an Evening Talk titled ‘Methodology Rules of Minority Fiqh’, at the CTIEC Ebraheem Kareem Hall in Eagle Park.

The key note address was delivered by Dr Shaikh Mohammed Belaoo, the CEO of the Imam Foundation United Kingdom.
The event began with a warm welcome from the President of the Cape Town Ulama Board, Mufti Sayed Haroon Al Azhari, who was joined by the Principal of CTIEC, Moulana Sayed Imraan Shah Ziyaee. The audience included ulama, muallimas, students, and professionals from the community.
Dr Belaoo’s talk focused on the definition and history of minority jurisprudence, highlighting common principles such as the Holy Quran, the Sunnah, analogy, and consensus. He delved into the methodological rules of minority jurisprudence, discussing jurisprudential applications like combining Maghrib and Isha prayers. Dr Belaoo also touched upon the importance of adapting fatwas to changing times and places.
The ulama present at the event appreciated Dr Belaoo’s insights and recognised the similarities in methodology and framework between his teachings and their own at the Cape Town Ulama Board.
President of the CTUB, Mufti Sayed Haroon Al Azhari, expressed gratitude for the knowledge shared and stressed the importance of continued education for the local Ulama.
Principal of the CTIEC, Moulana Sayed Imraan Shah Ziyaee, echoed this sentiment, emphasising the value of events like the Evening Talk in promoting learning and growth within the Muslim community.
Following the presentation, a question and answer session allowed attendees to engage with Dr Belaoo and delveddeeper into the topics discussed. The event concluded on a high note, with attendees leaving inspired and motivated to further their knowledge in Islamic jurisprudence.
